Men's Incontinence

Men’s Incontinence

Normally when you have to urinate (for men and women) the nerve signals tell the muscles in the walls of the bladder to squeeze, this forces urine out of the bladder and into the urethra. At the same time that the bladder squeezes, the urethra relaxes. This allows urine to pass through the urethra and out of the body. This is how it should work anyway.

Until now I have focused on women’s urinary incontinence; today we will begin to examine the causes of incontinence in men. In men urine is made in the kidneys and travels down through the ureters to the bladder until it is released thru the urethra out the penis. The urinary sphincter keeps urine from leaking out until you want it to.

The good news is men’s bodies are designed not to leak! Just 25% of the population afflicted with incontinence is male. In men, urinary incontinence may be caused by a myriad of reasons, from simple fatigue to physical damage, blockage or disease. Nomatter the reason incontinence is not a natural part of aging.

Urinary incontinence in men may be curable through medical intervention and by simple rest or it may be incurable as in the case of patients with MS and other incurable diseases. As with women, there are many wonderful products to help deal with male incontinence today.
